JK and Joel sign to BBC Radio 1

Radio 1 today announced that it has signed broadcasting duo JK and Joel to the station where they will present a brand new weekend show beginning this summer.

The pair, who currently host JK & Joel @ Breakfast on Manchester's Key 103, are amongst the most exciting emerging radio talent in the country today.

Since they began their current breakfast show in 2000 they have won several awards in the commercial sector and last year received a Silver award for Best Breakfast Show at the prestigious Sony Awards.

Andy Parfitt, Controller of Radio 1, said: "JK & Joel have already built a strong reputation – I've heard them in Manchester and felt they sounded really fresh.

"I immediately thought they would make a great addition to the Radio 1 line-up.

"Their style is cheeky but sharp, exactly right for our new daytime sound."

JK and Joel added: "We have had a great time working in Manchester but the chance to reach a national audience is just something we could not ignore. Radio 1 looks like a really exciting place to be at the moment – it's going to be great to be a part of it."
