JK was dragged up on a farm by cows, sheep, pigs and chickens in a small town near Worcester. Before school he would do the mucking out and after school would feed his pets. At an early age Jason decided that he did not want to carry on the King family tradition of "shit shovelling" and instead decided that he would try his luck as a DJ. He began mixing on his granddads gramophones when he was 11 and got his first club gig at the age of 14.

By the time Jason was 16 he had blagged his way on to local station Sunshine 855 presenting the afternoon show. He was on a dodgy Youth Training scheme and was paid £65 a week. Early highlights in his career included reading out the duck report, cattle prices and getting "stoned" with Tony Hadley. JK was sacked after a few years for apparently head butting the boss (Jason says he merely leant forward to express a point and the peak of his baseball cap went into his bosses eyes). His leaving present to the station was letting himself back in one night and swapping the boxes for all the stations CDs, he has grown up since.

JK moved to Bristol next to present the evening show on Galaxy 101 and little did he know at the time that his main competition for the post was his future co-host. Jason thoroughly enjoyed his time at the station, doing 4 clubs gigs a week and taking advantage of the local girls good nature. In 1996 this period of his career came to an end when he got a call from the Hull based station Viking FM. JK upped sticks and moved across to Hull where he was given the "jammy shift" 1 - 4pm. He found the northern girls even more welcoming and got a stack of club work in such showbiz places as Bridlington, Cleethorpes, Driffield and Scunthorpe. After two years of going out until 3am and getting up at lunchtime he was offered Viking FM breakfast.

In August 2000 JK and Joel were asked to cover Metro Radios breakfast show, as the current jock was about to leave and was taking another "sick day". JK and Joel were in Ibiza presenting what they saw as one of their last Viking breakfast shows before the move to Newcastle when they got the call asking how they felt about going to Manchester instead and working for emaps flagship station Key 103 and in October 2000 they did.

Friday 30th April 2004 was the boys last show on Key 103 Manchester. They left with a Gold Award under their belts for best Breakfast Show at the Sony Awards 2004 and a Silver for The Entertainment Award.
